From the art to the cards

A little about the card production process

calligraphy: Fancy the rapture of being there when the world was made (Marlatt)
NFS: Earl Marlatt "May Morning" (by ABR)

All the cards begin as original art works created by Annabelle B. Rodger - pencil and pen sketches that are completed using mostly watercolour paints, pencils, inks and washes.  The sizes of the cards are small (C6) medium and large (C5) & the artprints A4. The colour tones of the cards, especially watercolour, can vary slightly from how they render on your screen or even a little from the originals - there are often no easy printing solutions with watercolour but we try to get them as near as possible to the original.

Originally Tawa Print worked from the completed art. They ensured the cards were printed with care and attention to detail. In April 2009 Tawa Print merged with AdPrint Ltd, 60 Cambridge Terrace, Wellington, NZ. Ph 04 384 2844. They have since carefully continued the printing of my cards to the same high standard.

Tawa Print produced the first cards on a Fuji Xerox DocuColour using a digital printing process, and also on Heidelberg presses using the offset printing method. After experimenting, they found that an ultra-smooth card produced the closest effect to the original artworks.  The board is totally chlorine free, and has Forest Sustainability Council (FSC) certification.

All the cards are blank inside (though my characters definitely are not!)  Contact and copyright information are printed on the back.

Every card is sold with its own envelope.
