During the 1960s there was a kind of "dress uniform" in some Western countries for young women wanting to look smart: camelhair or duffel coats, twin-sets and pearl necklaces, 'Hush Puppies' shoes, nylon stockings with the dreaded suspender belts, silk scarves (preferably paisley-patterned), pig-skin handbags and gloves, fur hats, hair curlers...
I imagined this reunion - baby-boomers meeting up some forty odd years later - but truly I have seen women who still dress this way, hence 'staying with the style when we knew we looked our best !'
