This is my artisannabelle™ softcolour pencil drawing on white paper of rather jumbled unfurling poppies in an 1920s Charlotte Rhead jug. Poppies are so variable and cheerful and you never know exactly what colours you are going to get. I enjoy watching them open, change colour and fade almost by the hour so if you want to capture them you have to work fast. Here the contrast on a white background of textures between the real and the 1920s stylised ceramic flowers is particularly interesting, and although not a perfect composition in the 'traditional' sense, I accepted the opening flowers did tend to arrange themselves!
